Swiss Plumbing Websites Compared
Analysis of 1,626 plumbing companies: 43% have no website, average score 76.3. Where the industry excels and where there is room for improvement.

The plumbing industry is a cornerstone of Swiss craftsmanship. But how is their online presence? We analysed 1,626 Swiss plumbing businesses.
The most surprising result first
43% of plumbing companies have no website. Of the 1,626 businesses analysed, 696 have no web presence of their own. In an era where potential customers search online first for a tradesperson, this is a significant competitive disadvantage.
The good news
Of the 935 companies with a website, we successfully analysed 818. The average score is 76.3 out of 100 points. A solid result.
Score distribution overview
Over 94% of plumbing websites score at least 60 points. This shows that those who have a website have usually invested in a decent implementation.
Industry strengths
Plumbing websites perform particularly well in these areas:
Technical foundations are solid:
- 95.8% use a .ch domain
- 94% pass Core Web Vitals
Customer focus is present:
- 94.9% display contact information prominently
- 98.4% use ARIA attributes for accessibility
- 95.4% have properly labelled forms
SEO basics are in place: The average SEO score is 81.2 points. This is the highest value across all categories.
Where there is room for improvement
Our analysis also reveals clear areas for improvement:
Performance is the biggest issue
With an average of only 56.6 points, performance is the weakest category. The details:
- Browser caching: Almost every website is missing out on faster load times here
- Image optimisation: Only 35.7% compress their images properly
- JavaScript optimisation: Only 45.2% load scripts efficiently
This is problematic: slow websites lose visitors. Google also penalises them in rankings.
Legal requirements and trust
- Imprint/Privacy policy: Only 45.6% have complete legal pages. This is mandatory in Switzerland.
- UID number: Only 54.1% display their business identification number. While not required by law, it builds trust with potential customers.
Accessibility has gaps
- Colour contrast: Only 41.2% meet the minimum requirements
- Image alt text: 16.7% of websites have images without alt text
For older customers or people with visual impairments, this can make the difference between being able to use the website or not.
Particularly problematic: upon closer inspection of websites that score poorly here, it often appears that the contact section is difficult to read due to the chosen colours.
Swiss hosting: an underestimated topic
Only 59.5% of websites are hosted in Switzerland. While this is not the most important factor for trade businesses, it is a trust factor for some customers. Local hosting can also slightly improve loading times.
Key takeaways
-
No website means lost customers. 43% of the industry is unfortunately not sufficiently positioned online.
-
The basics are usually right. Those who have a website do many things correctly: mobile optimisation and contact details are standard.
-
Performance is neglected. Image optimisation and caching are quick wins that almost no one uses.
-
Legal requirements are underestimated. Proper imprint and privacy policy are missing from over half of websites.
What can plumbing companies do?
Quick wins for immediate improvement:
- Compress images (e.g. with TinyPNG or WebP format)
- Enable browser caching
- Add imprint and privacy policy
- Display UID number on the website
- Add alt text for all images
Long-term measures:
- Switch to Swiss hosting
- Write meta descriptions for all pages
- Check and adjust colour contrasts
Conclusion
With an average score of 76.3 points, the Swiss plumbing industry performs well. At least the 57% who have a website at all.
The greatest potential lies with companies that have no online presence whatsoever. And for everyone else: with a few targeted optimisations, especially in performance and legal pages, the score can be significantly improved.
